Elder Faber Dominican Republic

 Alright, it's been a while since I've sent an email, I'm not gonna lie, I've been having a rough time with an android phone. This email was actually supposed to send about 3 weeks ago, but I legit haven't had wifi in 3 weeks. So emails haven't been an option lately haha. But it'd alright. My Spanish is getting a ton better and I can somewhat have conversations with people, it's really fun to see how much better and more fun missionary work gets as soon as you can start talking and communicating with people. Because I'm not going to lie, when I first got here, I zoned out during every lesson and could hardly talk to anyone, missionary work was a drag and it was just hard. But as soon as my Spanish started to improve, the excitement to wake up and get out and working everyday skyrocketed. Just have to be patient I guess.   Another week in the DR! Spanish is still crazy hard but I'm starting to pick it up better. Me and my Comp started speaking in all Spanish from 8am in the mornings to 9pm in the night, and for every word we say in Spanish we have to do 5 push-ups. So I've been getting jacked We met an American who actually lives in the DR. He's always talking about how unloyal he was to his wife and how he was in the military and played triple A baseball back in the US. He also drops an F bomb every sentence. But he's actually got a good knowledge about the gospel and was actually telling us about how he was praying to find the truth about the gospel. And then we showed up and talked to him, so we'll see how that goes. We also found a lady who thinks she's a prophet, she said she prophesied the pandemic. She literally has a book about LDS prophets and she said she knows that they are true Prophets, but still thinks that she is the only true prophet right now. Weird  I still get...

  Dear Parents of the Santo Domingo East Mission, due to the rapid spread of the current version of COVID, the missionaries of the Santo Domingo East Mission will be working from home through technology for a few days in a semi-quarantine. We have some missionaries with the virus, but they're all fine, their symptoms are minor. In a few days everything will return to normal.      Thank you all for your prayers, your support and we look forward to continuing serving in this great and wonderful work. Sorry about last week's email, I've been struggling big time with email and Samsungs and awful wifi. But this has been sweet week! On Tuesday people bring their horses from all over the country to Bayaguana. So during that day there were a ton of people just riding their horses around town, it was pretty cool to see. A crazy lady came up to me and my comp to tell us that she had our Visas in her house. She said that I was Donald trumps son and my comp was Clinton's son. We also had a guy (absolutely wasted) give us hugs and kiss our hands. It was nice cuz I really needed a hug.  But yeah I'm not sure what to write in these emails cuz so much happens every week and I can't remember half of the stuff. I'm doing good though! Just vibing out here in the DR. The Spanish is still rough, but I'll get there eventually.   

  Dear Families of the Santo Domingo East Mission, Sister Acosta and I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas! We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity we have to serve in this great work with your children. We can tell you that they are all fine, so with some homesickness, but that is normal.  We are making sure everyone receives their packages and what they send to you on time and have invitation to dinner on Christmas Eve which when we usually celebrate. For some of your sons and daughters that recently arrived at the mission, this will be a different Christmas and they will surely feel better when they call you. As may know starting the mission is a challenge, so surely when you talk to them your love and support it will do them a lot of good.   It's been a crazy first week, my companion is Elder Fairbanks, he's pretty dope. He's a pretty big guy and is fluent in Spanish cuz he lived in Perú for 3 years before the Mish, he's actually younger than me. In my first 15 minutes in my new area there was a 16 year old kid in the middle of the street, naked as can be, dancing and leaving nothing to the imagination. So that was a weird first night. I probably shouldn't have said that in an email but it's alright. Here in the DR the people are so nice and welcoming, it is a 3rd world country so the people are very humble and amazing. Our apartment has no AC, not hot water, no carpets, you can't drink the water. But we do have a water filter so I feel very fortunate haha. Almost everyone has a motorcycle. Almost all of our lessons are outside on the street infront of their house, so we usually have to stop the lesson every 5 seconds because someone is popping a wheelie past us on their motorcycle.   Dear Family, We are happy to learn that  Elder Faber  arrived at the mission field on  December 14, 2021 .  We have had the opportunity to interview him and are grateful for the spiritual maturity he brings to the mission field. Surely his spirit as well as his talents will be of great use in the work that is: To invite people to come unto Christ. Elder Faber has been assigned to serve in the Bayaguyana area of Almirante.  his   companion will be Elder Fairbanks,   attached  are some photos of them.   Alright, well I’ve finally finished all 6 weeks of home MTC, and it went just about how it sounds. A whole lot of sitting around and a whole lot of Spanish. But It wasn’t necessarily all that bad, I was blessed with a Killer district and I had the best companions I could ever ask for. I was in a trio with Elder Gubler and Elder Durfey, both of them are goats, and I’ve learned so much from them. Our companion studies were mostly just us hopping on a zoom call at 7am and messing around and talking. Although we did study whenever we had to plan a lesson, yeah we mostly just talked and got to know each other for an hour before we had to go to class. Love those guys  Even though MTC was mostly just sitting around on zoom calls learning how to teach and learn the gospel in Spanish. I got to do some pretty cool things that you wouldn’t usually be able to do in a normal MTC.
